State Representative Sarah Roberts (D-St. Clair Shores) passes out energy efficient light bulbs at her weatherization town hall at South River Elementary School in Harrison Township on Monday. Roberts' town hall focused on ways residents can make their home or business more energy efficient to save money on utility bills.
LANSING – State Representative Sarah Roberts (D-St. Clair Shores) hosted a town hall meeting on Monday to educate local residents about saving money on utility bills through energy efficiency and home weatherization. The meeting, which was held at South River Elementary School in Harrison Township, was the third in a three-part series Roberts held on energy issues in Michigan.
"A lot of debate is happening around issues of alternative energy and diversifying our economy," Roberts said. "However, a very important part of this debate is on energy conservation. I hope those in attendance walked away with some useful information on how to make their homes more energy efficient and lower their utility bills."
Joining Roberts at the meeting were Joe Cooke, Community Operations Coordinator for the Macomb County Community Service Agency, and Bruce Wheaton, Residential and Commercial Programs Manager for Michigan Energy Options (Formerly Urban/Northern Options).
Wheaton and Cooke provided energy-saving tips such as installing CFL light bulbs and programmable thermostats, which can raise and lower the temperature according to a pre-set schedule. For more energy-saving tips, go to www.energystar.gov.
Roberts' previous town halls in the series focused on green energy and on green manufacturing and jobs in Michigan.
